Invitation to Assist the Community Emergency Response Team

By Calvin S. Hawkins, Jr., Division Manager, Community Affairs and Education

We have an incredible opportunity. Fox News is planning to do a story on the Prince George’s County Community Emergency Response Team program. Fox News will  come out and tape  a group of CERT volunteers participating in a disaster simulation drill next Saturday, June 15, 2013. The disaster simulation drill will begin about 10:00 A.M. DelMarVa Search and Rescue Group will conduct the disaster simulation drill.

We will have some makeup artists present to moulage individuals who serve as victims for the disaster simulation drill. I am contacting you to invite you to come out and spend a morning with some of the Prince George’s County CERT volunteers and serve as a victim for the CERT disaster simulation drill. We will have some fun while providing Fox Five News an opportunity to capture the CERT volunteers in action.

Please share this information. It is a good opportunity for students to get community service hours.

We are asking all volunteers to begin arriving at 8:00 A.M. Please wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty….Please spread the word and come out and have some fun with us!! Help CERT provide a realistic picture as possible to the Fox Five News viewing audience on the outstanding level of training and response of the CERT volunteers throughout this county.

Please email me at cshawkins@co.pg.md.usby Wednesday if you plan to serve as a victim…There are various roles that you could play.

The CERT disaster simulation drill will take place at the former Central Communications Facility. The address is 7911 Anchor Street, Hyattsville, Maryland 20785.

The address is 7911 Anchor Street, Capitol Heights, MD (Right off of Central Avenue).
