Saturday, February 7, 2015
9:00am - 11:00am

10201 Martin Luther King Hwy, Bowie, MD (2nd Floor Community Room)

Former State's Attorney Glenn Ivey will be on hand to hear our concerns as we look at how we can take action!!

The Washington Post recently featured 3 articles about what has happened to the home values in Prince George’s County?  What’s disturbing is that it inferred that our values were not going to increase any time soon.  (see articles below) So what can we do?  REGISTER ONLINE NOW!

It’s time for Prince George’s home owners to take action and demand fair and equitable value for our homes.  Join other homeowners as we discuss the following:
  • Has Redistricting affected our home values?
  • Have our Government agencies failed us?
  • How can we hold Banks accountable?
  • How are Real Estate Brokers involved?
  • What happened to the $10 million dollars from the Mortgage settlement?  Who got the money?
  • If crime is going down, then why are property values going down?
  • If the educational system is tied to our home values, then who is responsible?

A New Year's Message to Fairwood Residents

By the Fairwood Community Association Executive Committee

As we celebrate the New Year, the members of the Fairwood Community Association Board of Directors and Executive Committee would like to extend to everyone our appreciation for your choosing to be part of our community.

Last year was an incredible year. Our very successful community yard sale, summer community day, National Night Out and our recent holiday event provided excellent opportunities for neighbors to come together and even have a little fun, and we look forward to even more neighbors participating next year as our community continues to grow.

We expanded channels through which we communicate and receive feedback from our residents by adding Facebook,Twitter and a Fairwood Community Blog to our toolbox.

The year also saw the addition of EarthFruits Yogurt and Jazzy's restaurant to our community, as well as establishments that provide beauty supplies and even Asian cuisine to our residents.

As we approach 2014, we have much to look forward to. Many of you may have noticed how work has already begun to prepare the parcels of land on the east side of Church Road for further expansion of our community.

NV Homes and Ryan homes will build homes in the remaining sections of Fairwood. We're projected to reach 75 percent completion in 2015, at which point control of the Fairwood Community Association will transfer from the developer to residents. For this reason, we highly recommend all residents become knowledgeable of and involved in our community's governing process.

Fairwood community promotes safety at 2013 National Night Out

Fairwood residents continue into the night visiting tables and listenning to presentations by state and local officials.
The 2013 National Night Out event at Fairwood kept hundreds of residents engaged throughout the event with food fun and lots of good information on safety and preparedness.

By Deidra L. McGee

The annual National Night Out in our community was another success this year in the Fairwood Community. There was something for everyone to enjoy at any age. Highlights included: a puppet show, delicious pizza, yummy popcorn, refreshing snow cones, pink cotton candy, helicopters flew in from both the state and county police aviation units, fire trucks were on display, music was provided by WHUR, dancing took place in the street and many trivia prizes were distributed.

Various booths were set up supplying residents with information focused on safety such as: an emergency supply list, preparing your older americans for emergencies and preparing your pets for safety that were all provided by members of the Prince George's County Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT. Residents can find comprehensive information on emergency preparedness by visiting www.ready.gov.

A Fairwood Community Association board member also touted an updated version of the FEMA smartphone app that's available for iPhone, Android and Blackberry handsets. It's a helpful tool for putting together your emergency supply kit or even reporting disaster damage.

Prince Georges County provided brochures letting all residents know about Fairwood community promotes safety at 2013 National Night Out and safety text alerts by registering at: https://notifyme.princegeorgescountymd.gov

The Glenn Dale Fire Association will be having a Fire Prevention & Life Safety Open House on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, from noon to 4 p.m.

Let’s continue to keep the Fairwood community a safe one by getting to know your neighbors, by knowing who your block captains are, and by being observant and aware in your respective neighborhood and throughout the community as a whole. If you seesomething that doesn’t look right or see someone who is causing harm, say something by calling Fairwood security at (301) 331-4362 tor Dial 911.

Enjoy the rest of your summer and let’s look forward to having a safe fall season!

We have an incredible opportunity. Fox News is planning to do a story on the Prince George’s County Community Emergency Response Team program. Fox News will  come out and tape  a group of CERT volunteers participating in a disaster simulation drill next Saturday, June 15, 2013. The disaster simulation drill will begin about 10:00 A.M. DelMarVa Search and Rescue Group will conduct the disaster simulation drill.

We will have some makeup artists present to moulage individuals who serve as victims for the disaster simulation drill. I am contacting you to invite you to come out and spend a morning with some of the Prince George’s County CERT volunteers and serve as a victim for the CERT disaster simulation drill. We will have some fun while providing Fox Five News an opportunity to capture the CERT volunteers in action.

We are asking all volunteers to begin arriving at 8:00 A.M. Please wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty….Please spread the word and come out and have some fun with us!! Help CERT provide a realistic picture as possible to the Fox Five News viewing audience on the outstanding level of training and response of the CERT volunteers throughout this county.
