The 2013 National Night Out event at Fairwood kept hundreds of residents engaged throughout the event with food fun and lots of good information on safety and preparedness. |
The annual National Night Out in our community was another success this year in the Fairwood Community. There was something for everyone to enjoy at any age. Highlights included: a puppet show, delicious pizza, yummy popcorn, refreshing snow cones, pink cotton candy, helicopters flew in from both the state and county police aviation units, fire trucks were on display, music was provided by WHUR, dancing took place in the street and many trivia prizes were distributed.
Various booths were set up supplying residents with information focused on safety such as: an emergency supply list, preparing your older americans for emergencies and preparing your pets for safety that were all provided by members of the Prince George's County Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT. Residents can find comprehensive information on emergency preparedness by visiting www.ready.gov.
A Fairwood Community Association board member also touted an updated version of the FEMA smartphone app that's available for iPhone, Android and Blackberry handsets. It's a helpful tool for putting together your emergency supply kit or even reporting disaster damage.
Prince Georges County provided brochures letting all residents know about Fairwood community promotes safety at 2013 National Night Out and safety text alerts by registering at: https://notifyme.princegeorgescountymd.gov
